Dr. Nelson Kuria serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Institute of Directors Kenya. He holds a BA in Economics, MA in Leadership Studies, and Executive Leadership training from Stanford Business School.
With over 36 years of distinguished experience in development finance and insurance, Dr. Kuria has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his career. He began his journey in the insurance industry in 1982 with Kenya National Assurance Company as Assistant Manager in charge of Research, advancing to Chief Manager of the General Insurance Division. He later served as General Manager at Gateway Insurance Company and notably held the position of CEO at CIC Insurance Group from 2001 to 2015.
Dr. Kuria also serves as Chairman of Smep Microfinance, Enwealth Financial Services, and the African International University Council. He is also a distinguished Board Member of Kenyatta National Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and the Kenya Society of Professional Co-operators.
His extensive experience in corporate governance, strategic leadership, and financial services makes him an invaluable leader for IOD Kenya's mission of advancing professional excellence in directorship and corporate governance.
